Objectives and social role

The Norwegian Directorate of Elections is responsible for the election process nationwide.

The overall state responsibility for the election process lies with KMD (Kommunal- og moderniseringsdepartementet - the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation), but the municipalities and county authorities are responsible for the practical side of the election process. Objectives of the Norwegian Directorate of Elections for 2021:

  • Objective 1: A proper and safe electoral process that gains the trust of the public.
  • Objective 2: Voters have the necessary information about the election.
  • Objective 3: Good accessibility during the election.
